Empowering Black Families: Strategies for Navigating the Colorado Education System
Tuesday, April 2nd 5:30 - 7 pm | Session 1: Key Components
This session provides an overview of the framework and organization of the education system, including administrative structures, funding mechanisms, and policy-making bodies. Participants delve deeper into the essential elements that comprise the education system, such as curriculum development, assessment practices, and student support services.
Monday April 15th, 5:30 - 7 pm | Session 2: History, Challenges, and Opportunities
This session explores the historical background and evolution of education within Black communities, including challenges, achievements, and significant milestones. Participants examine current issues and trends affecting education, with a focus on challenges faced by Black students and communities, as well as emerging opportunities for advancement.
Tuesday April 30th, 5:30 - 7 pm | Session 3: Advocacy, Resources, and Support
This session equips participants with effective advocacy strategies and emphasizes the importance of parental involvement in education, empowering them to advocate for positive change. Participants learn about available community resources and support networks that can enhance educational outcomes for Black students, fostering collaboration and mutual support.
Monday, May 13th, 5:30 - 7 pm | Session 4: Educational Policies, Practices, and Next Steps
In the final session, we examine the impact of educational policies and practices on Black students and communities, encouraging critical analysis and constructive engagement for improvement. Participants share resources, reflect on their learning journey, and develop action plans for implementing strategies discussed throughout the program.
